Abstract "The kite runner" is the first novel of Khaled Hossein's who is an Afghan American writer and it is also the first novel created by the Afghan American writer by English. The novel is about the friendship and affection between two Afghan boys. It’s a trip of salvation for Amir ,the master, who betrayed his friend in childhood and a couple of years later,came back to homeland Afghan to expiate his guilt. The objective of this treatise is to delve into the application of symbolism, analyse it's importance in the novel and how it convey the author's ideologies. The author uses the images including the kite, the pomegranate tree, the slingshot which have multiple cultural metaphors. The kite is the core image, it plays an important function in narrating, promoting the plot’s development and the characters’ psychological changes as a carrier with multiple metaphors. Meanwhile, these three images are well joined in context., that contributes to summarize the structure of the novel. The symbolism throughouts the text .The symbolism makes the characters more profound, which shows the human nature.It makes worldwide have an understanding of the Afghanistan’s peacetime and wartime, in order to expose and condemn the war and racial discrimination have a great harmful in the physical and psychological.
