The symbol ,means "patchwork", "analogy" in ancient Greece . it refers to the two half blocks in a piece of tablet, taking half of each other, as a keepsake firstly.And gradually it refered to be a sign, secret or ceremony for those who participate in mysterious activities. The symbol means the closed relation between A and B. A represents and implys B. In the symbolic activities, the symbol is to use a small thing to imply a far beyond things than itself. For instance, the cross implies Christ. The symbol is also to use a specific thing which human can touch to imply abstract things which is human emotions or ideas, such as ,using wolves to imply greed. Symbolism is a kind of artistic technique which can be found in literary commomly. It originated in the middle of the 19th century in France. Symbolism aims at using the specific things in nature to convey the writers' ideas. The things are specific and tangible which are called image. And the things that are symbolized are abstract and invisible. “Image is a concrete representative of sensory impressions, emotions, and thoughts”. [4](P.444) The symbol has the meaning of repetition and persistence. “An "image" can be converted into a metaphor once, but if it is repeated as a representation and reproduction, then it becomes a symbol, and even a part of the symbol (or myth) system”. [5](P.210) The symbolism is a kind of artistic technique that is applied in literary works commonly. In The Kite Runner, the kite ,the pomegrante tree, the sightshot ,as specific things, the images,have appeared in the text.And the integrity and kindness of hassan, friendship between two boys, the Afghan society and so on are the abstract things.Especially “The kite, as the most prominent literary image of the novel, it always appears in the protagonist’s fate repeatedly”. [6](P.34)
