Recently learning Chinese is very prevalent in abroad. More and more people know the importance of using Chinese. So there is a question, “whether or not Chinese can replace English to becoming the world’s language”. First, for historical reasons, English has become first main global language. British spread English all over the world, which by developed the colonies in the earliest 17th and 18th century, then occupied the leadership position through the its industry. Subsequently, American’s economic advantage and political leadership insured that English is first or second language in the majority of countries. Although native Chinese people are the largest number in world, they almost live in China. Now as Chinese people are no colonist, there are no colonies which vast territory and speak Chinese; however, the early colonies of England, French and Spain still use their languages. Second, Chinese language is very difficult to learn and use for people in the other countries. Even you use Chinese pinyin to express Chinese character, still there are four tones to distinguishing different meanings with each character. Also because dialect is extremely different around China, person who is from different regions could not speak two dialects in Chinese. But in Europeans, this ability is more common, because the Latin is the major source of most Europe’s languages. Like an Englishman is easy to learn Spanish, but mostly northern Chinese citizens could not understand southern Chinese citizens’ dialect. Lastly, a west logistician said that there are three main factors to measure the strength of language, population, ancient books and economic strength. Without the history, culture, geography and many other factors, why are the German and Japanese economic strength than the Spanish, but German and Japanese languages were not unpopular to Spain. Obviously, Chinese language can not replace English to becoming the first language in the world today, but with the continuous improvement of Chinese economic and political status, Chinese language will be more general than other languages in the future.
