From my prospective, I hold the attitude that with the development of science and technology we're more connected than before, but we're feeling more alone. It is universally acknowledged that our little devices, those little devices in our pockets, are so psychologically powerful that they don't only change what we do, but change who we are. However, the truth is that we're letting them take us places that we don't want to go. There are quite a few instances for this. People text and shop and go on QQ during classes, actually during all occasions. What's more, parents text and do email at breakfast and at dinner while their children complain about not having their parents' full attention. Currently, those phones in our pockets are changing our minds and life. It tells us that we will never have to be alone, which is central to changing our minds. Because the moment that people are alone, even for a few seconds, they become anxious and panic and they take out their cell phone. Just think of people at a bus stop or at a red light. Being alone feels like a problem that needs to be solved. And so people try to solve it by connecting. But here, connection is more like a symptom than a cure. It expresses, but it doesn't solve, an underlying problem. But more than a symptom, constant connection is changing the way people think of themselves. It's shaping a new way of being. Therefore, it seems that we're more connected than before, actually we feel more alone.
