Are Dialects just as acceptable in Public Places? In China nowadays, Manderin is mandatory in education and some public places. However, it is very easy to find that wherever we go, there are often dialects spoken by people in public places. Therefore, there is a debate that whether dialects are acceptable in public places being heatedly discussed. From my point of view, I firmly entertain the idea that our dialects are so extremely important that we can speak it in public places as we like. First of all, dialects impose a great importance on people’s thoughts or even mannerism. Dialects are usually formed by a certain group of people who lived and worked with each other and therefore created it through ages. That is to say, the dialect is not only used as a language, but also it demonstrates a region’s culture and passes its pith to the people in the area generation to generation. So, speaking dialects in public places is actually a way to show their culture while achieve the purpose of communicating with each other. Secondly, there is a problem in today’s world that our children are averse to speaking their own dialects and even regard it very vulgar, which results in many kids or even their parents can’t speak their mother tongue. It is very worthwhile to think and ponder over where this phenomenon will lead us to—various dialects facing the problem of vanishing in this world forever. We should not, from this point of view, ban people saying dialects in public places since speaking dialects is actually a practical way to spread the idea to kids or some people that it is not a humiliating thing to do and being able to speak a type of dialect should be proud of. All in all, I want to emphasize my opinion again that dialects are acceptable in public places for it can not only spread a culture in a region but also change people wrong views about dialects. China now has been a country famous for its openness to this world, so why don’t we open our mind about speaking dialects in public places.
