In contemporary society, children become familiar with computers at a very early age. Tactfully-designed video games are extremely popular among the young. Supported by digital technology and multimedia, such games are leading children into a magical wonderland. Some people are proponents of video games which could inspire students’s interest and make their study more efficient, so they think that young students should be allowed to play video games. Nonetheless, the reason why I disagree with above statement is that I think playing video games distracts their attention and wastes time. In order to testify my standpoint, I would firstly place emphasis on the fascination of video games. Most computers games contain a large number of elements that are dramatically appealing to the heart of students. When indulging themselves into games, they could enjoy the true-to-life visual and sound effects, virtual and interesting scenarios, as well as the fascinating game modes which allow players to vividly experience the magical power of the games. Owing to those fascinating characteristics, most computer games are able to tie an addicted youngster to the chair before the computer screen for a long time. Without doubt, children of lower ages lack self-control. In the absence of parental supervision, they are easily indulge in games and can’t get out of it. Therefore, it is not only do harm to students’s schoolwork, but also waste much valuable time that could be spent engaging in more meaningful activities. Besides, overindulging in video games would hinder the development of children’s mental. To illustrate, the two main types of games are business strategy which let child be affected by the crass business world too early and action shooting which allow children to be more proficient with the operating keyboard, no one of them will make students’s study more effective. Children are at an age of mental development. With this in mind, parents should help children adopt good hobbies and interests that actually improve learning efficiency. Such as drawing pictures with colored pencils in the open air, reading the thought-provoking world classic and person-to-person interactions, those are enormously important for intelligence growth and cultivating sound personality. In sum, with a lack of self-control, children are easily addicted to games which not only delays their studies but also affect their intellectual development. Video games couldn’t make their study more efficient and in turn waste much valuable time that could be spent engaging in more meaningful things, so young students shouldn’t be allowed to play video games.
