This is my second application to Tufts University. A year seems like a long time, but in fact it's fleeting. In this year, I have made some progress in academic and linguistic ability. First of all, I want to talk about some progress related to the major of International Relations. At the end of 2017, I applied for the short-term visiting scholar program of Beijing Normal University, hoping to improve my professional knowledge in the field of International Relations. Because the School of Government Management of Beijing Normal University has no short-term visiting program. I eventually chose the School of History to study world history. According to my future research direction, I took four courses in History College: Oriental Diplomatic History, Japanese History, American History, and European Integration. At the end of the study, I finished my class papers “Can Japan Get Out of America and Enter Asia?”In addition, an research review and a report were completed in the two courses of American history and European integration process, respectively. Although I can't study in the School of Government Management, there were a large number of books on International Relations in the library have broadened my knowledge and horizons. These precious resources were not available to me before. So in a sense, I studied two majors in Beijing Normal University at the same time. On the one hand, I learned history from the professor in class, on the other hand, I studied international relations by reading in the library. Moreover, the two disciplines are interrelated and complementary. Last year, my TOEFL score was 73. After a year of study, my TOEFL score was 84. I know it's still not a satisfactory result. But I did try to use all of my spare time to improve my English ability in 2018. For me, the most difficult thing to improve is the ability of listening. I spent the most time on listening but got little improved. Maybe there is something wrong with my method. Until now, I still practice my English listening every day. I intend to continue taking the TOEFL test in 2019. For the next time, my goal is to reach a point between 100 and 110. In November 2018, I was offered a part-time job as an interpreter at an international conference in the Philippines. The conference is aimed at many countries in the Asia-Pacific region. I mainly served as a Japanese interpreter during a company's negotiation and an English interpreter during our stay in the Philippines. Through this activity, I met many foreign friends from Japan, Philippines, the United States, India and Central Asia. By communicating with them,I learned about various cultures and habits in their countries. Although this year, the harvest is not great. I believe that as long as I don't stop working hard, I will achieve my goal. I know that I am much more likely to persevere when I fail, because I do not believe that failure is a permanent condition.
