As is vividly depicted in the cartoon, nearly two dozen of people are sitting in front of their desk. Side by side, all of them are concentrating on their computers, with a net seperating them into boothes. Below the drawing there's a caption which says " the Farness and Closeness of the Internet. " Apparently, the intended meaning of the drawing is that people are getting closer while staying away from each other in reality. Absolutely, the tendency that the Internet has become one of the most important media in our daily life are bringing us with benefits as well as serious challenges. For one thing, people from all walks of lives are benefiting considerably from its powerful function of information communication. For instance, as a college student, I get online every day to read the news, study English by registering for web courses, exchange information with my net friends through emails and download my favorite music, movies, flash and pictures. For another, a good many people admit that they are too addicted to the Internet to maintain a regular or wholesome lifestyle. Cyber-living resembles the experience of looking constantly into a kaleido scope which displays both colored patterns and illusions, once indulging in the fictious world, people can barely concentrating on real life again. Consequently, people in mounting numbers just finish their daily routines totally online and feeling their interpesonal relations knocked out. To sum up, it is my view that we are supposed to use the Internet in a reasonable way and restrain from overindulgence. We have developed speed while we shut ourselves in, but we literally need kindness and gentleness way more than cleverness which create machine that give us abundance only. After all, the Internet was invented to improve oue effeciency of work and connect us rather than barricade us with apathy and shakle us in.
