Hello, everyone, I'm very glad to have this chance to talk to you. The topic of my speech is "China will finally beat the virus." Obviously, this winter vacation in China this year is unusual and the Spring Festival is full of panic. This winter vacation, a new Chinese coronavirus, a cousin of the SARS virus, has infected more than seventy thousand people since the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December. Signs of the disease among infected patients have included fever, cough, shortness of breath and general breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, the virus can cause pneumonia. Some people report few or no signs, while others have gotten very sick or even died. Furthermore, it is the most frightening that the novel coronavirus is cunning as fox, the disease is able to spread from one person to another even before any actual signs appear. This makes it especially hard to contain. So, there can be no doubt that the situation of this epidemic is severe and it is hard to beat the virus. There are a large number ordinary people died because of the virus and many doctors and nurses are infected during heal people. The number of people infected is increasing, but the supplies are insufficient. China seems to be in the dark. Nevertheless, you may be too naive if you think China will be defeated. Chinese people had beaten countless disasters, such as floods, typhoons, earthquakes. In 2003, the Chinese beat SARS proudly. Several decades ago, we successfully defeated foreign invaders. Everything proves that the Chinese is invincible. In the one hand, Chinese are indomitable and optimistic. As we all know, Photos of a gentleman reading calmly in bed in the newly-built makeshift hospital in Wuhan, epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, went viral on China's social media platforms not long ago, with many calling him the "Invincible Wuhan Man". And the videos of patients exercising in the cabin hospital have also been widely circulated online. I know, this may sounds funny and incredible. But it is Chinese people's indomitable and optimistic attitude that this exhibits in the face of difficulties. In the other hand, many Chinese have the spirit of dedication and fearlessness. Many people are risking infection in the first line of fighting the epidemic. When the Wuhan became the most dangerous place and thousands of people wanted to flee it, they chose the opposite direction. Over 20,000 healthcare workers in 100 plus medical teams converged in Hubei, the hardest hit province, from across the nation to support epidemic control. Exemplifying professional dedication, all medical workers are saving and protecting lives around the clock despite the risk of infection and exhaustion from overwork. They are hailed as heroes in harm's way. In this epidemic, we have not only witnessed the good news of the epidemic, but also witnessed the sacrifice for fighting the epidemic. Liu Zhiming, president of Wuhan Wuchang Hospital in Hubei province, called as “a man who works hard”, died of the novel coronavirus pneumonia. A 29-year-old doctor in Wuhan, Hubei province, died from the novel coronavirus pneumonia. If the outbreak had not occurred, Peng Yinhua, the doctor, would have held his wedding ceremony on Feb 1 with his wife. Their sacrifice grieved us all and we should pay tribute to everyone who works on the first line of the epidemic. Furthermore, Chinese government and people have firm resolve in dealing with the epidemic. Scientists and researchers, who have been working day and night, isolated the first virus strain and developed the test reagent in less than seven days. Another group of people working around the clock were several thousand engineers and construction workers, who built the two specialized hospitals equipped with 2,500 beds in less than 15 days. Braving freezing weather, community workers leave no stone unturned in checking on every block to make sure that no family in need is left unattended to . Tens of thousands of volunteers are working non-stop to help deliver supplies and assistance to the affected regions. Overseas Chinese around the globe rushed to make donations in cash and kind to help battle the outbreak. At the same time, China is not fighting alone. The international community has given us valuable moral and material support. This joint fight is strengthening the friendship between the Chinese people and peoples across the world. Russia, Belarus and the ROK swiftly delivered badly needed medical supplies to Wuhan through chartered flights as well as Japanese groups sent assistance supplies to China. Although we can't terminate the virus now, we get more and more good news. Just as President Xi Jinping said, we have full confidence, capacity and determination to defeat the epidemic. Dawn is breaking and we are seeing light coming through. We China will finally beat the virus. This is the end of my speech. Thank you for your listening.
