Whether college should allow students choosing their own major based on interest , is a permanent question. In this article I will briefly discuss about the possible reason of both sides and give my own opinion. Some people suggest that subjects have to be chosen by undergraduates. There is a saying that ‘interest is the best teacher’. classes chose by them own is a motivation to gain more knowledge and get a good result. If they lose their rights studying their favorite subject, a vast of student will not pour their time and passion on lectures. Moreover career path is so closely related to what student studies in the University. Being forced to take a boring subject also means he has to work in this area for another forty years until his retirement. Young adults have the right to decide their life path. Imposing useful subject yet the dull one, however, is a invasion of the freedom. On the other hand, some argue that university student should only be allowed to study useful majors. Providing useful work is a duty of college. Math, medical, IT and science provide brilliant scientist, programmers and doctors who can promote the development of technology and make increase in economy. If there are more students studying and doing research in this major, will definitely boost the economy. Besides, the high unemployment rate of literacy, language, history and philosophy can be solved. At the same time, human resource shortage in science and technology can also be leased. Personally I believe university student should choose their own major based on interest. For they are human beings with freedom deciding what their lives should be like, not a robot born to serve for national politics and economy. University can recuit more students studying math and science but to force them to choose it.
