“Pollution Tax” Should Be Put on Private Cars Recently, in many big cities, the government agencies have been considering putting a “pollution tax” on private cars. The public holds different opinions towards this policy. The supporters observe that it can not only benefit our health but also promote sustainable development and environment protection. However, the opponents argue that it’s ineffective to tax private car owners in order to reduce pollution. Worse still, it may heavily weaken the car-making industry. Personally, I totally advocate for this policy. My reasons are as follows. Firstly, taxing private car owners may force them to reduce emissions to some extent. We all know the emissions of cars do great harm to the people’s health and exacerbate greenhouse effect. So if the move takes effect, it will be a blessing for the mankind and the environment. Secondly, admittedly, the tax on private cars will unavoidably restrain some people’s desire to buy cars and thus hit the car-making industry. But in fact, it’s also a good opportunity for them to adjust their original way of production and make more environmentally-friendly cars. If their cars are good value for money, it’s certain that many people would choose to buy. All in all, if the charging scale of “pollution tax” is reasonable and fair, taxing private car owners for pollution is a wise try in the long run.
