When news that some government agencies have been studying the possibility of putting a “pollution tax” on private cars came to the public’s focus from background, there has been a huge stir among citizens. Some believe it may be an effectual mean to avoid air pollution causes by the emission of cars, while others hold an aggressive attitude against the new politic. To my way of thinking, the “pollution tax” is quite reasonable. A large amount of people go into raptures easily at the mere mention of private cars. For them, buying a car is to show off rather than to secure a convenience. They are always under an illusion that they are somehow superior to those people who do not own cars. This widespread idea is completely incorrect! It is the idea that results in not only environmental problem but also traffic jam. With an increasingly number of private cars, people become so lazy that they prefer to drive to the destination, which is within a distance of 500 meters! You can imagine how harmful it is. Car owners should have gotten there by public vehicles, and this could reduce so much emission of waste gases. Based on the above, I do think private car owners should be taxed on pollution. On the other hand, the heavy traffic fumes is not barely arisen by private car owners. The government also owes to the pollution because of the imperfect traffic regulation. There is still a group of people buying cars for more convenient and effective journey. The traffic regulation, however, must has many flaws and insufficiency. Otherwise, there cannot be so many people who would rather rely on private cars while it would take a lot for car maintenance. It is advisable for government to carry out the “pollution tax” along with the reform of the traffic regulation. Only by doing these can we reduce pollution effectively and live a green life.
