Volunteers are the people who do work without being paid, just because they want to do it. The Indians possess a vivid saying—roses given, fragrance in hand—which greatly suits with their selfless service. The saying reflects that helping others will also benefit you, and I do believe this. There are so many benefits of volunteering that I can’t count all them. Firstly, volunteering enriches our lives. It is the help to others and the contribution to society that makes your lives more colorful and meaningful. Then, through a few times of volunteering, you will find that you become more and more patient and persistent. You may go to an old people’s home and chat with them all afternoon long, or you may play with kids in special schools and help them to learn. All these can help you to develop a caring heart and a sense of responsibility. Moreover, you can acquire a lot from activities of this sort to grow and improve yourselves, because you will have to organize, make plans, and advertise for these activities. In these periods of time, you obtain opportunities to learn and to meet a wide range of people. The more experience you gain, the maturer you grow. There are still a great many advantages of volunteering for you to find out. Many people realize that there are more important things in life than fame and fortune after several times of voluntary activities. Health, happiness, and love is not commodities in shops that could be purchased by money. Volunteering teaches us all of these. And the true value of volunteering is not in what we do, but in what we get.
