But in fact, as cultural icons, the old historic building should be given higher priority to be preserved. To begin with, city will benefit a lot from the old historic building. For one thing, old historic buildings are always the cultural symbol of certain ancient age. It is designed ingeniously and aesthetic, becoming the “name card” of city. Also, it can promote the local economical development. As a “name card” of city, the old historic building will attract more and more tourists to visit, which will certainly contribute to the economy. In turn, if the government had enough revenue, the old historic building would been deserved further protect, forming a benign circular system. Furthermore, some old historic buildings, as the witness of history, play an irreplaceable role to help us reflect on history. For example, the military base of infamous Japan Unit 731, located in Pingfang District of Harbin, China, was the headquarters of Japanese Biological Welfare Unit 731 during the World War 2. In there, more than 3000 people, even including children, died due to the human experiments conducted by Unit 731. The chemical weapons they left are still can be found in the district and cause lethal effect on Chinese. This building is a mirror reflecting us and spurring us to prevent such things happen again. For this, how can you assume that building new houses are more important than preserving old historic buildings? For those reasons, we can safely conclude that preserving old historic building should be firstly considered; they have more important influence on the city’s development and help us to retrospect the history.
