In recent years, criticisms on Chinese education system can be heard without end. Admittedly, there are numerous problems in Chinese education system. However, we can not only focus on the negative aspects of China’s education system, positive respects of it should also be accentuated. First, our citizens’education level has increased rapidly since 1990s. The year of 1986 witnessed the generation of the law of compulsory education of the People’s Republic of China. China began to universalize the 9-year compulsory education. According to the Sixth National Population Census Date, compared with the Population Census Date of the year of 2000, the ratio of people with degree of college education increases from 3.611% to 8.93% ; the rate of people with junior and senior middle school level augments from 45.107% to 52.82%; the proportion of people with primary school education decreases from 35.701% to 26.799%. The literacy rate of China raises from 93.28% to 95.92%. All of these indicate that Chinese population quality has improved significantly and Chinese education system is quite successful to some extent. Second, China’s elementary education is relatively perfect. It stresses the systematical teaching of basic knowledge and training of students’ problem-solving skills. Moreover, course content are systematic, scientific and logical. This makes the ability of Chinese students’ mathematical calculation is rather powerful. They can calculate the results of add, subtract ,multiply and divide with their heads, without needing calculators. It completely owes to Chinese education. A great number of people from all works of life view that Chinese students are absent of creativity and critical thinking under such terrible educational environment. Chinese college entrance examination decides a person’s destiny. And the exam is quite unfair, which deprives the right of students’ free choices and makes students be the slaves of examinations. But the national college entrance examination is the most fair exam in China, which is based on China’s national conditions. China is a society of human relationship since ancient times. And there are still many drawbacks in China’s law and regime. We have not yet other standards to decide whether a student can be admitted to college except for the college entrance examination. As to our education system, we should get rid of its dross and suck up its essence. What is urgent to do is not to complain and criticize Chinese education system, but to try every means to accelerate the reform of it.
