For sucrose content, 0.5g of powder as extracted by 4 ml 80% ethanol with a 10-ml centrifuge tube in 80℃ water bath for 40 minutes and was homogenized on a vortex for 10 minutes. Then the mixture was centrifuged at 4500×g for 3 minutes and supernatant was removed to a 50-ml volumetric flask with 80% ethanol to dilute to the 50-ml volume. The content of sucrose was analyzed by resorcinol hydrochloric acid method (Huber and Israel, 1982) with minor modification where 2 ml of 30% (v/v) HCl and 1 ml of 0.1% (w/v) resorcin was added in the tube to be incubated at 80C for 10 minutes and then measured at 480 nm.
