The invention of the Internet, as is known to all, has greatly affected the way people communicate. People can contact each other whenever they want, they can also interact in a more convenient way. However, recent decades have also seen the negative effects the Internet has on communication. The indifference of family members caused by the Internet has become a major problem. Under this circumstance, I am against the idea that electronic communication can replace face-to-face contact. One might argue that Internet brings about overwhelming convenience, but in my opinion, several factors make face-to-face contact indispensible. The most important one is the affection and relationship face-to-face contact brings about, which is a must for every family. What is more, face-to-face contact can equip people with the ability of communication, which makes them better at socializing. Last but not least, the total replacement means the extinction of verbal communication. Therefore one can no longer hear the human voice, which is impossible even to imagine. Thus, we must spare some time to communicate with others, especially family members face-to-face, instead of sitting in front of the computer all day long.
