The proliferation of the internet marks the beginning of a new era, which features easy access to information. This arouses public concerns on the relevance of news to our lives, as it did in the case of this essay that some people consider news to be irrelevant and thus of no value at all. From my point of view, this statement is too absolute to be reasonable. Admittedly, a number of international events which are happening seem to be distant to our daily lives, for they can hardly exert an immediate influence on us. If you live in Australia, for instance, you might find it hard to see anything useful in an international report on a new policy which has just taken into effect in Africa a week before. However, it is not always the case. Let us suppose that you work as an financial analyst for a local company which has just invested a large sum of money into a project, the majority of the operation of which is in the country mentioned above. When the local government suddenly imposes a strict regulation on the industry of your company's operation, can you honestly say that this information has nothing to do with my life and it is useless? This is just one of many possible situations that can challenge the statement in the first paragraph. In my effort to avoid making the same mistake, I will classify news into two tpyes, according to the relevance of news to us. The importance of certain news may vary to different people, and the relevance pays a critical role. If some news can impact your life, or in other way, knowing the news, you would make an otherwise different decision, then it is useful and valuable to you. Other news may fall into the other class, the useless one. Though the differences between these two classes can not be clear cut, the classification can facilitate an effective discussion.
